Did you know that Ditto Landing took its name from James Ditto who is believed to have been the first white settler in Madison County?

In the early 1800's Ditto established an Indian trading post and a ferry which crossed the TN River. This gunwale flat boat ferry was rowed across the river carrying new settlers. This settlement grew into what eventually became the city of Huntsville AL.

Andrew Jackson and Davy Crockett were also transported across the river on their journey to the Creek Indian War.

James Ditto and Ditto's Landing played a key role in the westward expansion of the nation!

The Tennessee River is undoubtedly the greatest natural resource of the city of Huntsville. Conveniently accessed by both Ditto Marina park and Whitesburg Marina, the river offers full enjoyment of water sports as well as facilities for gatherings and camping. It is amazing that we can head north from our neighborhoods and drive ten- fifteen short minutes to downtown Huntsville or head 3-10 minutes south and become blissfully unaware of the hustle and bustle of the city.

As the smaller of the two marinas, Whitesburg Marina offers river front green space with picnic tables, an accessible dock, full concessions, restrooms and lower cost boat storage options. Situated on the scenic point of the property, Whitesburg also offers an indoor / outdoor facility with kitchen which is available for rent for gatherings or receptions. Both wet and dry boat storage and launching are available.

Ditto Landing is Huntsville's premier destination for any and all water related, outdoor recreation. Ditto is easily accessed by car, but is also the start, end or turn around point for walkers and cyclists traveling the Aldridge Creek Greenway.

For those who simply wish to sit at the edge of the river and watch an amazing sunset or for those who are ready to dive into the action of fishing or boating, this is the place to be! No matter what you plan to do upon arrival, be sure to bring your camera along. This is a place where memories are made and you never know what nature will share with you on your visit!

Canoe, Kayak, Double kayak and Stand Up Paddles are now available for rent at Ditto Landing!
In addition to daily and hourly rentals, Huntsville Madison County Rowing & Watersports is also offering private and semi-private rowing lessons.
Director and Head Coach, Jeffrey Coy, has been coaching for 12 years at programs including Harvard University and Rocket City Rowing.
This is a great opportunity to enjoy the river!
Rentals are open 7 days / week. Hourly, 1/2 day and full day rates are available.

Sprawling across a massive 560 acres, Ditto not only provides access to the TN River, (both wet and dry boat storage and launching are available,) but is also laced with natural inlets for those who prefer a more secluded, shoreline fishing spot. Picnic areas, large fields, 2 pavilions, boat rentals, restrooms, a camp ground and an abundance of wildlife round out the many opportunities for family fun, water sports and peaceful relaxation in the great outdoors of south Huntsville!
